Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu: The Americans Cannot Pinpoint the Terrorist Positions in Syria

In a TV interview, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the so-called "moderate opposition" in Syria uses booby-trapped APCs in order to carry out suicide bombings, while the Americans cannot inform the Russian side of the exact locations of the moderate opposition or of the ISIS and Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorists. The interview aired on the Russia 1 state TV on August 13,2016.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu: "We need a base in [Syria] in order to fight those bandits from afar. Today, we understand how right our president was when he said that many of our compatriots, from Russia or the former Soviet Union, are [fighting] there. It is like a magnet: The weapons there flow in from every territory - I repeat, every - territory. I say this with absolute confidence, because I know what I'm talking about.

"The worst suicide bombers use APCs. They just put someone inside with 200 kilos of explosive and weld the hatch shut, and then the guy charges forward. Who are they? [Is this really] a moderate opposition, which we are not letting out [of Aleppo]? Who are they? Those who are behind them say to us: 'Those guys are fighting for a better future.' I don't understand such methods [of suicide bombings]. We say to our [American] colleagues: 'Tell us where this moderate opposition is deployed. Tell us exactly where it is, so that we can refrain from striking there.' They could not do that. 'Fine, so tell us exactly where we should strike - exactly where you think the ISIS and JN terrorists and their affiliates are located.' They could not answer this either. So there are many things we need to figure out with our American colleagues."
