During a talk show, Jordanian-born UAE cleric Sheikh Waseem Youssef told a caller that it was "prohibited" for women to watch wrestling shows. "You'd be better off watching cooking shows," he told her.

Following is an excerpts from the show, broadcast on Abu Dhabi TV and posted on the Internet on December 16, 2015.

Female caller: Sheikh, I'm a wrestling fan. What should I do?

Sheikh Waseem Youssef: Pardon, sister?

Female caller: I love watching wrestling. I watch a lot of it…

Sheikh Waseem Youssef: Why, by God? Are you Genghis Khan, or what? Why do you watch wrestling? One guy beats the other guy. What do you get out of it? Do you take the trophy home with you? This is prohibited. First of all, you are not allowed to look at the clothes they wear. These are private parts. Secondly, this is wrestling. You'd be better off watching cooking shows.
