Emir of Qatar Emphasizes Neighborly Relations with Iran at Arab Summit

In his speech on March 28, 2015 at the Arab League summit, held in Sharm Al-Sheik, the Emir of Qatar Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized his country's "good neighborly relations" with Iran, and said that "good neighborly relations are based on respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their domestic affairs." The summit was broadcast by Egypt's Channel 1.

Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani: Your Royal Highnesses and Excellencies, we view in the most favorable light the international efforts to resolve the disputes with Iran over its nuclear program, in a peaceful manner. We have always supported peace and stability in the Gulf region. On this occasion, let me emphasize our good neighborly relations with Iran, which we consider to be at integral part of our region and of our Islamic nation. Let me further emphasize that good neighborly relations are based on respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their domestic affairs. The diversity of sects and denominations in our Arab nation is a source of enrichment in terms of culture and civilization. It is part of our multi-faceted Arab identity, and not a reason to interfere in [anyone's] domestic affairs.
