Palestinian Researcher and BDS Activist: The BDS Movement Has Had a Great Impact on the Israeli Economy

Palestinian researcher Shadi Abu Oweimar, a member of the Turkish Association for Solidarity with the Palestinians, said in a recent TV interview: "It is well known that the boycott campaign against the Zionist entity, which has existed since 2005 within Palestine, has had a great impact on the Israeli economy." The interview aired on the Turkish Qanat TV channel on August 10.


Following are excerpts


Shadi Abu Oweimar: The [BDS movement] has existed since 2005, and it has had a very great impact on the Zionist enemy, to the point that the Zionist entity, or Israel... A few days ago Yediot Aharonoth held a conference dealing with how to combat the boycott of Israeli merchandise and products. It is well known that the boycott campaign against the Zionist entity, which has existed since 2005 within Palestine, has had a great impact on the Israeli economy. The Israelis have even contracted law offices in Europe and America, in order to fight the boycott against the Israeli entity in various fields.

The boycott movement in the West Bank is strong, active, and really outstanding. It's not a marginal thing...


Interviewer: But sometimes it's active, and sometimes it is less so.


Shadi Abu Oweimar: The BDS movement is an outstanding movement, which has existed since 2005. It has managed to impose the boycott and publicize it. In Ramallah, for example, the BDS activists go out among the people, visit stores, distribution centers, and vegetable vendors, telling people not to buy Israeli products, because Israel is killing Palestinians, and because when you buy these products, you are paying for the bullets that are killing our Palestinian brothers.
