Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb following Paris Attacks: People Who Do Not Respect the Law Can Go Live at the North Pole

Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb recently said, with regard to the Paris attacks and the threat of further terrorism in Europe, that people who live here but do not want to respect the law should go live somewhere else - like the North or South Pole. The interview aired on Alaan TV on February 27, 2015.

Following are excerpts:

Ahmed Aboutaleb: What happened in Paris could happen in any other city in Europe or the world. We must not forget that prior to the Paris attacks, more than 100 children were executed in Pakistan. Their only "sin" was that they were the children of Pakistani soldiers. These criminals fear nothing, and are capable of carrying out such attacks anywhere in the world.

Any [Muslim] who wants to stay here and live with us must respect the law, which applies to people of all races and religions. As I have always said, people who are here, but do not want to live with us or respect the law, must do some soul-searching. If you want to stay among us, you must respect the law. Otherwise, perhaps you can live somewhere else in the world - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, the Pacific Ocean, the North Pole, the South Pole...

I am in charge of the police and the local security force in Rotterdam, and I do not see any increase in the number of attacks against Muslims, against veiled women, or against mosques. I see no indication of that. We must refrain from creating confusion in this regard. I personally am in touch with the mosques, with the churches, and with the Islamic and Jewish institutions in the city, and nobody is bothered. True, there are fears, but there are no indications that there might be an attack against Islamic institutions.
