In an episode of "The Deen Show" posted on YouTube on September 11, Sheikh Mustafa Umar, founder and director of California Islamic University, promoted polygamy as "an avenue for many women to get married" instead of remaining single for the rest of their lives, citing as an example women who spend years studying medicine. Attorney Ahmad Sheikh said that marriage in Islam and marriage under state law were "two completely different things," suggesting cohabitation agreements as a means to overcome the legal barriers. Show host Eddie Redzovic explained that it is better to be a wife than a mistress. "Women are seeking sugar daddies," he said. "The Deen Show" is carried by several English language TV satellite and cable channels in the U.S., the U.K., and elsewhere.
