Egyptian TV Host against Stabbings by Palestinians: We Haven't Learned from Our Mistakes

In an October 11 broadcast on the Egyptian Kahera Wal-Nas TV channel, TV host and journalist Ibrahim Issa said that the knifing of people in the streets was "a repetition of the mistakes of the past."

TV Host Ibrahim Issa: "I would like to say something once again. There is an atmosphere of a Palestinian Intifada. The Palestinians, the Arabs in general, and all the people with conscience are fed up with the barbaric Israeli occupation, which under no circumstances can be considered to have anything to do with humanity. Having said that, however, the conduct that I am witnessing in this Intifada – or in the sentiments that are described as 'Intifada' – is a repetition of the mistakes of the past. What's the story with all the knives?! How can you knife a person walking down the street, and say: 'This is resistance'? Look, the Palestinian cause is in the hearts of each and every one of us, but we should learn from our past mistakes. We were happy with the stones (of the first Intifada), but then came the (second) Intifada with all the killing and bombings, which we also considered to be 'resistance.' If we are not mature enough to realize that this conduct does not serve the Palestinian cause, and has so far foiled all the Intifadas of the Palestinian people, and has led them into the hands of collaborators, or traitors, or of groups that peddle in the Palestinian cause, or of the Islamic movement that has nothing to do with patriotism, and believes that the entire world of Islam, not just Palestine, is his homeland... If we do not recognize the mistakes that we committed or supported, it means that we do not learn from our mistakes. Palestine will not be liberated by the knifing of a settler or an Israeli child crossing the street, with all due respect to the Palestinian blood that was shed and to the Palestinian cause. This conduct does not serve the nobility of our cause. We've tried this before.

"The Arab countries are in a lamentable state. They are all embroiled in civil wars against one another. They bomb one another with warplanes. Oh Palestinian people, none of them will support you. They are fighting and killing one another. The countries and governments that you think may arise to help you are killing one another. They will show no solidarity with you. They will leave you all by yourself. This is on top of the repetition of the tragedy of using the wrong means for the sake of a just and noble cause."
