PA Official Ziyad Abu Ein Mocks Khamenei's Offer to Arm West Bank Palestinians: We Are Waiting on Tenterhooks

In a TV interview , Deputy PA Minister of Prisoner Affairs Ziyad Abu Ein mocked Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei's call to arm the Palestinians in the West Bank. "Please come. You are most welcome. Our borders are open. We thank you," he said. Abu Ein, who is a Fatah Revolutionary Council member, continued: "All our women will ululate in joy to welcome the Muslim armies coming to liberate Palestine." The interview aired on the Iranian Al-Alam TV on October 31, 2014. On December 10, Abu Ein died during clashes with Israeli soldiers.

Following are excerpts from the interview:

Interviewer: The Islamic Republic of Iran called for the arming of the West Bank, like the arming of Gaza. These statements were made by Khamenei, the leader of the revolution. Do you support this proposal? Do you support these direct calls to arm the West Bank?

Ziyad Abu Ein: Do you support these direct calls to arm the West Bank? Why don't you ask the Iranian people? The Iranian people are invited to set out from Tehran and come to Jerusalem. They are more than welcome. They can bring the entire Arab and Islamic nation in tow. We will greet them at the border, and join the fighting. Or maybe they want to do this like they always do – by spending millions of dollars on military parades, but ultimately, not a single bullet is shot at the Israeli occupation. Please come. You are most welcome. Our borders are open. We thank you.

They are fighting in Syria and Lebanon, so they may as well come to fight in Palestine. Why is it so difficult? But the Palestinian Authority has opposed this… By no means. I would like to declare here and now that the entire Palestinian people is on tenterhooks, waiting for the Islamic forces – especially our dearly beloved Islamic brothers from Tehran and all of Iran – to start marching towards Palestine. The entire Arab nation will join them marching, and the entire Palestinian people and leaders welcome this…

Interviewer: Do you expect the Islamic masses to fight in Palestine, while you yourselves refuse to bear arms?

Ziyad Abu Ein: My dear brother, whoever sent forces to fight in Syria and Lebanon can surely send forces to fight Israel. You are most welcome. Our land, our people's hearts, are open to you. Our hands are stretched out, awaiting these forces. All our women will ululate in joy to welcome the Muslim armies coming to liberate Palestine.
