Amir Mousavi, Former Advisor to Iranian Minister of Defense: Iran to Provide Missiles to West Bank

Iranian researcher Amir Mousavi was interviewed on July 25, 2014 on the Lebanese Mayadeen TV channel. Mousavi, a former advisor to the Iranian Minister of Defense, elaborated on Khamenei's statement about providing arms to Gaza as well as to the West Bank, and said that Iran and its allies would deliver missiles through Jordan and the Golan Heights to the West Bank.

Interviewer: "Ali Khamenei talked about arming the Palestinian resistance in Gaza as well as the West Bank. What does 'as well as in the West Bank' mean? How will this arms supply be performed?"

Amir Mousavi: "What I can tell you here, in a nutshell, is that by creating those parasitic takfirist movements in the region, they sought to sever the resistance fighters within the occupied lands from their supporters in the resistance camp, like Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Hizbullah. But it turned out for the best. Through those takfirists, the resistance camp established very important channels via Jordan, the Golan Heights, and other areas.

"Everybody will see that new and significant fronts will be opened all of a sudden, to support the Palestinian cause in the West Bank and Gaza. Therefore, I believe that a major reshuffle awaits the region, according to all the information and evidence. What Imam Khamenei said – he knows what he is talking about. A new front must be opened from the West Bank, after it has been armed – especially with missiles, because we know very well that the distance between the West Bank and Tel Aviv, Haifa, and other areas is much shorter than the distance from Gaza. Therefore, simple means are required. There is no need for long-range missiles. Short-range missiles can change the entire picture in the occupied lands."

Interviewer: "From what you say, I gather that Khamenei's statement was not simply a response to the (Israeli) demand for demilitarizing Gaza. Rather, it was a statement setting out a strategy."

Amir Mousavi: "Yes, the arming of Gaza will be stepped up, and strategic weapons will be introduced into the West Bank. We hope that the brothers in the Palestinian Authority will help rather than impede this."
