Algerian-French Journalist Mohamed Sifaoui: Osama and His Ilk Are Carrying Out the Word of Satan

Following are excerpts from an interview with Algerian-French journalist Mohamed Sifaoui, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on June 3, 2011:

Interviewer: You recently published this book, along with another book. I'd like to talk about this one because we are discussing extremist groups. It is titled Ben Laden Dévoilé, or Bin Laden Unveiled, but it is a comic book. It is not the kind of book we are accustomed to, when it comes to Al-Qaeda and the extremist groups. Why did you decide to write this kind of book this time, and what is the difference?

Mohamed Sifaoui: The difference is first and foremost, that I wanted to convey a message to the younger generation, which may not read serious books. I wrote it in order to talk about Bin Laden, and about other things relating to Islamic extremism, or, to be precise, extremism that purports to speak in the name of Islam. I thought that through comedy, it would be possible to convey a message to the younger generation, so that people would understand, through laughter, that these people do not represent Islam or the Muslims, and that perhaps they are mentally ill…

Interviewer: What story is told in this book?

Mohamed Sifaoui: It tells Bin Laden's life story in a humorous fashion. Bin Laden is always shown with a Kalashnikov to this right, talking directly to the camera, as if he were the final messenger of God. He is nothing but a murderer, or an idiot. I think that Osama was not right in the head.

Osama, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, and all those people would like to give us third, fourth, and fifth world wars, and they tell us the black-eyed virgins are waiting for us in Paradise, and so on. If anybody has been to Paradise and seen the black-eyed virgins – let him come and tell us…

They send young men to blow themselves up, but their children stay next to them. Even Bin Laden kept his children by his side, and he married them off, and so on. Why don't they send their own children to blow themselves up, instead of sending other people's children? They take children in the prime of life – 20 or 25 years of age – brainwash them, and say to them: Go blow yourselves up, in this place or that place.

[…]

The question I ask is: How can people who claim to believe in God, who created this universe and human beings, harm the creatures of God? How can they? That's what I don't understand. When you look at a painting by Picasso, for example, would you dare to tear it up? When you see an artist creating a work of art, would you go and destroy it? No, you wouldn't. There is such a thing as respect. These people purport to be worshipping Allah, who created the universe and human beings, but they are killing people, ripping them apart, and rending them asunder.

Interviewer: They claim to be carrying out the word of God.

Mohamed Sifaoui: Let me tell you, they are carrying out the word of Satan.
