Ayatollah Jannati In Iran Friday Sermon: Qods Day Rallies Message To U.S., Israel: The World Hates You


In his Friday sermon today, Tehran Friday Prayers leader Iranian Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati pointed out that the Last Messenger and 12 Shiite Imams had opposed oppression, and that the International Qods (Jerusalem) Day rallies indicated a global conscience against oppression. "A Qods Day rally is different from other rallies, such as the 22nd of Bahaman rally (marking the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran), because it is international, while other rallies have their roots in religion and nationalism," Ayatollah Jannati said. Tehran Friday prayers leader praised this year's Qods Day rally and said people from other faiths other than Islam participated the rallies as well. Ayatollah Jannati added, "This year, the Qods Day rallies were more glorious than ever. It has a message for Israel and the U.S. - and that message is 'The world hates them'" Ayatollah Jannati added.Ayatollah Jannati pointed out that the Last Messenger and 12 Shi'iteImams had been against oppression, and that the international Qods Day rallies pointed to a global conscience against oppression. "The U.S. and Israel are the manifestations of oppression in the world. If there were no Qods Day rallies, Israel would feel better and the Palestinians worse than they do today," Ayatollah Jannati said.

Ahmadinejad Calls For Obama To Implement Change

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday called for his US counterpart Barack Obama to put into practice his "change motto" as soon as possible. Meeting with the Brazilian president on the sidelines of the 64th U.N. General Assembly, Ahmadinejad said, "We believe Mr. Obama's change motto must be implemented as soon as possible, because change is a serious need and the entire world is looking forward for serious and practical changes in this regard." He also referred to mutual ties between Iran and Brazil, saying that the current global situation required the two countries to expand cooperation and aid establishment of a just order across the world.

Senior Iranian Cleric In Russia: Iran - Center of Anti-Israel Move


A senior Iranian cleric yesterday said that Iran is the axis of the anti-Israel move in the Islamic world. Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Tashkiri, secretary-general of the World Assembly for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thoughts, made the remarks in an interview with the Islamic republic news agency in Moscow. Ayatollah Taskhiri is in Russia to attend a conference on "Russia and the World of Islam: Cooperation for Further Stability."

Khamenei: Iran’s Enemies Unlikely To Engage In Military Confrontation With It


Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said yesterday that enemies were trying to undermine the country's significant progress in various fields. The remark came in a meeting with the Assembly of Experts chairman and members. Highlighting the points of strength of the Islamic Republic in various fields, Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemies are now masterminding a very complicated plot to target the country's unity, which requires vigilance by all intellectuals. He added that it was very unlikely that the enemies would engage in a military confrontation with Iran at this stage.

Ahmadinejad: 'Death to U.S.' Slogan Due To U.S. 'Ugly Behavior'

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the slogan "Death to the U.S." chanted by Iranians is the result of the U.S. governments' "ugly behavior." Ahmadinejad noted, in an interview with the U.S.'s National Public Radio (NPR) yesterday, that in his comments U.S. President Barack Obama has accepted this fact, and has called for change in how Washington treats other nations. Asked about the reason behind the "Death to the U.S." slogan chanted in Iran, Ahmadinejad said, "This is their [the Iranian nation's] reaction to the ugly behavior of the U.S. governments."

Iranian Official: Obama Adopting Ahmadinejad's Statements

Esfandiar Rahim Mashai, director of the office of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has said that the U.N. address by U.S. President Barack Obama attests to change in the U.S.'s hostile policy towards Iran, and added that statements in it correspond to Ahmadinejad's positions. Mashai said that the audience applauded Obama so that he would speak like Ahmadinejad. Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad told the leaders of Islamic associations in the U.S. that the idea of sending Islamic troops to rescue Palestine is a good one, but expressed hope that U.S. policy would change so that there would be no need to do so.

'Kayhan': U.S. Must Recognize Iran's Global Power

The Iranian daily Kayhan, which is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has called on the U.S. to recognize Iran's power and special status in the world. It added that the U.S. must stop its "crazy diplomacy" aimed at advancing the barren peace plan of U.S. President Barack Obama, which disregards the rights of the Palestinians and the necessity of eliminating Israel's existence.

'Kayhan' Editor In Scathing Attack On Saudi Arabia

Editor of the Iranian daily Kayhan Hossein Shariatmadari, who is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, told the Iranian Arabic-language television channel Al-Alaam that Saudi Arabia was an absolutist dictator ruled by a family that acts against the will of the people, and that it had no lofty position in Islam. He said that Saudi Arabia was behind every plot in the region, including the terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq and the establishment of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, and added that the Saudi propaganda attack against Iran was proof that it stood alongside Israel.

Senior Iranian Army Cmdr Stresses Importance of Bolstering Defensive Power


A top Iranian Army commander today highlighted the importance of strengthening the country's defensive power. Iranian Army deputy liaison chief Gen. Mohammad Hossein Dadras said, "If we increase our defense power, we will be able to portray Iran as a more independent, more important and more honorable country in the international arena."

IRGC Cmdr: Enemies Incapable Of Attacking Iran


A senior IRGC commander has said that the courage shown by the Iranian nation in different arenas, including in the Iran-Iraq war, has discouraged enemies from staging a new attack on the country. The commander of the IRGC's Aba-Abdellah brigade, Ali Ostan-Hossein, said: "The Iranian youths stood against all Eastern and Western superpowers, by relying on the power of their faith, and did not allow the breakaway of even one span of Iran's soil, and discouraged enemies from staging a new attack on the country."

Basij Commander: U.S. Hiring Agents For Soft Overthrow of Islamic Republic


Iran's Basij forces commander Hojjatoleslam Hossein Taeb today cautioned that the U.S. is hiring agents and mercenaries in an effort to continue its plots for a soft overthrow of the Iranian regime. He said, "The U.S. has put on its agenda three issues for the soft overthrow of the Islamic Republic, including attraction, employment, and coercion." Taeb was speaking at a ceremony in Kerman province marking Sacred Defense week.

Tabnak Warns Against Moscow's New Iran Policy

The Iranian website Tabnak states that Moscow's condemnation of Holocaust denial, in addition to a Russian expert's warning regarding the Iranian missile threat to Russia and Europe, attest to a change in Russia's policy towards Iran. According to the website, the U.S.'s withdrawal of its missile program in Europe will have a negative effect on Moscow-Tehran relations. The website added that Moscow was aware of Iranian public opinion’s hostility towards it, and of the pressure that it exerts on the Iranian regime against Moscow; thus, it concludes, Moscow’s recent moves constituted a hint to the Iranian regime that there was a security and international price to be paid for this hostility against it.
