Al-Qaeda Commander Yahya Al-Libi: No Peace in Somalia without Islamic State

On June 22, 2008, Islamist websites posted a video message by Al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan Abu Yahya Al-Libi, titled "Somalia - No Peace without Islam."[i] In the message, Al-Libi denounced the agreement signed earlier this month by the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) and the Somali government,[ii] and urges the Somali mujahideen to continue their jihad until an Islamic state is established in the country. He also calls on the mujahideen to oppose the deployment of international peacekeeping forces in Somalia, and exhorts them to fight "the collaborating apostate government in Mogadishu" even if some of its members are their own relatives.
